Banded Snake Eel Norfolk Island

Banded Snake Eel Norfolk Island
We saw this little sucker down at Emily Bay. Just swimming along near the outer reef, sticking his head into sand and rocks, forraging for food.
The Banded Snake Eel is supposed to be quite a rare sight. We see them when we are diving and snorkelling here on Norfolk quite often. I saw this one a few days in a row.
The Banded Snake Eel, unlike a banded Sea Snake, is not venomous and is essentially harmless. I am a huge hero, but dont like to get too close to them regardless...

  1. Saw a Banded Snake Eel while swimming with my family at Emily Bay last Thursday. Water is crystal clear. Beautiful

  2. Yep, saw the Banded Snake Eel in Emily Bay 2 weeks ago. It had its head in the sand and reared up backwards to the extent that it's back half was out of the water. V glad it is harmless. Carolyn Quinn
